Helsinki Punavuori - Redmont

The Agricola church

Agricolan kirkko
In the middle of Punavuori there is this interesting church. Build of red bricks, this building is quite impressive by size and design.

In WWII the tower could during a bombing attack "swallow" the green peak into itself! I just heard about that, never seen it happen myself, so I don't know if it is true.
Iso Robertinkatu - Iso Roba

Iso Roba...

... as this street is used to be called among natives; it is a broad and lively shopping street - with lots of pubs and boutiques.

Iso Roba is parallel street to Bulevardi another nice street.
reflections in the sun

West end of Punavuori

At the west end of Bulevardi you come to the western harbour area.

Here you have a wonderful flea market on Hietalahden tori every day!

Come and have a look at the gigantic cruisers built...
Punavuorenkatu

Punavuorenkatu (street)

In the spine of Redmont (this is my personal translation - punainen stands for the colour red and vuori means mountain) is of course the Punavuorenkatu - Redmont street.

With lots of nice buildings and architectural details one might observe if one just would care to lift his/her head to look around more carefully.
Albertinkatu

Albertinkatu - Albert's street

Crossing both Iso Roba and Bulevardi this street hosts mostly residence buildings - very little shops.

Its very north ending starts in Kamppi and continues almost as far as to Eira in the south.
The cruising ships

In the industrial harbour (Telakka)

Finnish ship building has a great tradition, unfortunately the economic situation does not favour such industry and therefore foreign companies are the owners.

This the fourth of four ships that will be built and delivered to the Caribbean Sea
