This travelogue I created for myself. To easily find my best photos, to dream about my travels in China.

And to tell you some little stories.

This photo here shows a bridge at the Summerpalace in Beijing. I took it during my first visit to Beijing. It was freezingly cold, the Kunming Lake was frozen. Some people were iceskating. I was completely exhausted after all my sightseeing that day. The sun was already going down. Then I saw the light coming through the arcs of the bridge. The sight overwhelmed me, I almost cried, because everything was so beautiful!

Tanzhe Temple

To this temple I went by bus with a group of students of the Beijing Language Institue. Is was November and also very cold.

This photo shows China for me like I always dreamed of it: mysterious with the idea of history and religion.

Spring in Chengde

Chengde

Chengde has been the summer residence of some Chinese Emperors. After a long and very cold winter, after everything has been grey and dusty for months, spring is very welcome with all its colours and flowers.

Lijiang

This fairy tale town in Yunnan Province on the way to Tibet has been for me a dream come true.

Li River near Yangshuo

Li River

A boat trip on Li River was one of many highlights during my first trip to China in October 1987. Even though it rained heavily on this day, the mountains and the landscape were beautiful.

Xiahe

Graslands Xiahe

I visited Xiahe to see the famous Labrang Temple. But the graslands nearby were almost more impressive!!

The meadows were covered with the most beautiful flowers and wild strawberries. The scent of the blooming flowers and the humming of the insects impressed me deeply.

Gardens of Suzhou

It seems, that I am travelling mainly during rainy seasons. The pouring rain covered this garden with mystery.

Xian

City Wall Xian

The old city wall in Xian is many kilometres long. I always liked the old men and women of China most. They are so friendly and curious!

so much is similar to how China impacted on me.my pics are all home in Sydney-seeing yr pg Id so love to make mine! haul out the exciting memories of the adventure there on my own, stunning landscapes, lovely people and the very hard work often involved!

An excellent overview & great updates again about this fascinating destination !Thanks for reminding me to bring a "roach-hotel" for Amanda the cockroach ( a small box with the inscription : They always check in, but never check out...)

I am so glad I finally got round to reading this excellent page :-) I especially enjoyed hearing about the less well-known parts such as in the west. You have made me want to return here when befire I thought I had seen enough :-)
