"A boat trip on the river - 1" Chobe National Park Travelogue by Alain_Smeets

Chobe National Park Travel Guide: 102 reviews and 371 photos

After the Jeep Safari we went for our breakfast. The breakfast and dining - area was located next to the river so that you always had a very clear view over the water.

After the breakfast it was time for out boat ride on the river. This river slowly flows across the plains for Chobe National Parc and makes here and their some nice small quiet pockets of water.

We board our boat, it’s a double decker, so two decks to sit on, the one below is in the shade and on the top deck you can bake in the sun. And it was again an hot and sunny day with temperatures way in the 30 degrees. And we have beer on board. Yummy

They guide promised us that we could see lot’s of wildlife while we were on the boat, he talks about hippos, crocodiles, water buffalo, sea-eagles and elephants, ….. I have to say that it’s true you can see a great variation of wildlife when you are on these small boats.

The hippo is the most dangerous animal out there, they tell us that the hippo kills the most humans in Africa, even more then lions or other wild animals. It’s hard to believe but it’s true. If you fall in the water next to such a plant eating chubby and he’s pushing you down with all his weight, I don’t have to make a picture to tell you who is going to win.

Also during some day safaris we saw some hippos running towards the water and if you stand in their way, well they will just run over you. We had almost a run in with a hippo, I come back on that later.

The landscapes are diverse and the wildlife is stunning and in the mean time, we are relaxing on that tiny boat having a few drinks and enjoying ourselves.

The story continues on the next travelogue: A boat trip on the river - 2

Alain, a great page on Chobe! It sounds like you had a great time on both the land and water parts of your excursions! Will you pay for my beers too if I come with you?
