Horrible Religious Artefacts

by gale.blog.pl - last update: Dec 10, 2005

Opening Note

A few years ago I started collecting what I call horrible religious artefacts.

As a person brought up in Catolic culture (I'm not religious but a believer) and a son of art historian I've always been interested in religious artefacts that attract people's attention despite their ugliness, repulsive form or total lack of good taste.

Please note that I treat with most respect all possible religious symbols. That is why I decided to collect artefacts which I treat as caricature of religious symbols.

Thanks to convoyblue my collection is not only limited to one item...
Last Blinking Supper

Last Supper

This clock was brought from Greece. I purchased it for EUR 5 in a Chinese or Vietnamese shop. As you can see in the picture it is a reproduction of 'The Last Supper' with a built-in clock and tiny blinking red lamps. The edge of the object is mirror so it was not possible to take this picture and not to show myself in the mirror. Sorry.

Shining Crucifix

This Crucifix was brough to me by convoyblue who bought it especially for my collection in Rome.

It is made of genuine plastic painted gold and the figure of Christ glows in the dark.

Real horror. Never let a child own one!
Shining in the Dark
Shining with Reflections

Shining St. Mary

This object of cult was also brought by convoyblue from his one-day trip to Rome.

It is also made of genuine gold painted plastic and it depics St. Mary. The figure of the Holy Virgin glows in the dark and the dim light is reflected by the mirror-like thing behind Her back.

Good Lord, how can You allow people to produce such things?!
