| | Monday the 12 started with sunshine. We were already thinking about our braai that evening, but let’s think about the wine trip first. We being picked up with a taxi and brought to Cape Town. There started the confusion. We went to the wrong office. This was a regular buss office and not the one from the tour. So I had to call the hotel to find out which tour they booked. A nice person from Europcar helped me out. The bus was on time and we get in. |
A girl was already in the buss, Kathryn I think, a Polish girl who already lived her whole live in Germany. She is a nurse. We had a nice talk to her. But we find out that we are on a Peninsula tour and not on a wine tour. The lady in the hotel made a wrong suggestion to us. But we made the best of it. We saw some places we already had seen, but also a lot of places we didn’t saw before. So at the end it was OK. Saw the penguins, the seals and also the botanical gardens in Kirstenbosch. These botanical gardens are very impressive, big, very big. You can walk there for hours and hours and don’t see everything. But there was a lot of rain and we were very lucky that at each stop it also stopped raining. | | | Mister Penguin at Boulder Coastal Park (Thieu) |

| | We came along the hotel and asked the driver to stop to get some jackets. We were sitting there in shorts and that was OK, but no jacket for the rain was a little bit worse. But with the rain, our braai plans are falling into the water. John was already waiting for us and because we didn’t have any wine (we wanted to buy that on the wine-trip remember), he proposed to go to a small restaurant a village further or go to Muizenberg. |
For Muizenberg we needed a car and there are possibilities to go out. John tried to find out if the reckies are still driving. They stopped at 6 o’clock in the evening. The small restaurant it will be. Just a walk of 10 minutes across a dark golfcourse. But this was one of the first contacts with the local people. They are all friendly and nice. Not as in the States that they are only friendly into your face. John was a good example of the SOUTH AFRICA-friendliness. We met more people like that. | | | The Botanical garden of Kirstenbosch (photo Thieu) |
