Piha is a small community on the western side of the forested Waitakere Ranges. The Tasman Sea produces big surf here as it pounds into New Zealand. You can camp here or stay in a few pricey B&Bs. The locals are known to be environmentally friendly and you will also find lots of small arts and crafts places there now.
