Rautatientori

city centre
Thursday night 5th of June about midnight. Eventhough it is an ordinary weekday's late evening there are quite a lot of people around.
friends

say hi to antti and beni

Thursday evening, where to go? What's up in the city?

Well we headed to Belge after having watched Beni, here on the left, chewing on his spicy Kebab in 'Stadin Kebab' (no comment) we went to Belge (see night life tip) a nice place to sit in.
Kaisaniemi

city lights

going home - around this time it is not difficult to catch a bus or tram. metro traffic stops around 11p.m.
the swiss connection

very comfortable sofas in Belge

hmm, Belge again.

If you like belgian beer this is the right place to go to in Helsinki.

But I prefere finnish tapped, like rarely sold Hartwall Classic 1836.

Yes, I know, even Hartwall is not really finnish anymore.
waiting for the bus

waiting for your bus

There are three bus 'terminals' in the very centre of Helsinki.

The depicted here is Rautatientori (east of the rail way station) which is at the moment the biggest and which handles Helsinki city and airport connections.

Another one is on the other side of Rautatientori (west) - Elielinaukio. Because the third one (Linja-autoasema) is now not in use because of Helsinki's building rage, Elielinaukio serves the cities of Espoo and Vantaa...
station

East entrance of Railway Station

Mind this spot Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights...

Almost every Monday you may read in the newspapers how here someone was attacked, mugged or molested...
bus

On entering the bus

you must of course pay the fare.

This can be done in several ways.

Either you have a traveling card (issued to people with domicile in greater region of Helsinki)

or

you pay cash, directly to the driver.

There used to be another possibility, a ten fare stamp card, but the traveling card has replaced it.

Tram fares can be paid by sending an sms to 16353 (1,7e), in return you receive the ticket as a message! Neat. Valid for an hour.
