The Strip -- Outdoors

It's All About the Facade . . .

Once More, From the Top
Vegas is a visual town -- everything is built with an eye for style and for excess. For an overview, head to the top of the Stratosphere (see my "Must See" tip). Then hoof it along the Boulevard and see what you can see. Here are some of my favorite shots along the Strip.

(If you look closely at this photo, you can see the 350,000 watt beam shining from the top of the Luxor's pyramid. This is an amazing thing to see if you fly into McCarron International Airport -- just a couple of miles away -- after dark, like I did.)
It's Up to You, NY NY
I think my favorite architecture in Las Vegas is at New York New York. How can you not love seeing an entire city skyline in less than one block? Throw in a roller coaster that goes roaring past like a screaming yellow caterpillar on speed and you've got yourself a winner.
Next door, you can go back a few centuries and get all medieval at Excalibur (of *course* they had slot machines in the twelfth century -- work with me, here!). I liked this skyline, too -- at night the wizard shoots flickering "magic."
Excalibur
Larger, But Less Furry
Across the street, and glowing Emerald City green at night, is the MGM Grand. The lion statues out front are something like 4 stories high. Don't miss the live lions inside!
After the sun goes down, the scenery changes. Sure, stuff is still way big -- but now it's also way bright! Here's another shot of Excalibur so you can see the difference in mood. Watch out for that wizardry!

Paris, Vegas-Style
You'll always have Paris . . . even if you're in Nevada. We didn't go inside, but I thought the Eiffel Tower looked nice. Pass the Freedom Fries, please! ;-)
Across from Paris is the famous Bellagio. I took this picture because I thought it was a nice example of the giant signs along the strip, I liked the lights, and I liked the giant American flag (just in case you start to believe you really are in France, or Italy, or Egypt, or . . . ).
Bellagio
Smile, Unless He Makes a Break for It
Finally, just to prove we were here together -- Dylan & I in front of Bellagio (waiting for the fountain dance). We both look a bit suspicious because it was a crowded area and this guy, who was alone, offered to take a photo of us. We were wondering if he was sincere, or if he was going to run off with the camera.

I loved the Valley of Fire, too! It was like being in an old Western movie.
