| | Yoga I have fallen off the wagon, but need to restart. This isn't the candle lighting and om chanting yoga. I do Bikram Yoga ...a very strenuous and hot form of hatha yoga. I am also currently reading a book called Journey into Power by Baron Baptiste to try to learn some more about the "soft" side of yoga... I can honestly say that the 1st day of Bikram Yoga was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but the results were amazing. I'm still trying to figure out why I ever stopped. After one month of daily practice, I was a completely new person.... |
Reading I am a vociferous reader, although being home with my family now (a good thing), I'm finding a lot less time.
I read the Detroit and National newspapers online daily.
I have subscriptions to several magazines (Mens Journal, Esquire, Sports Illustrated...) , and tend to buy five or six in the airports when I travel (favorites include Mens Health, Robb Report, GQ)
I also like to read books, especially outside....
Last Books Read:
The Tender Bar - J.R. Moehringer...one of the best books I ever read..best part is that it revolves around a bar.
The Soul of A Chef - Michael Ruhlman...great book for a foodie about 3 chefs quest for "perfection"...
The Making of a Chef - Michael Ruhlman...this is the one that put Ruhlman on the map as a food writer...a tale of his year at the CIA (no not that one, the one that develops chefs)
The Reach of a Chef - Michael Ruhlman... the Third part of the trilogy, this one about the impact of the "celebrity" of the chef...great story about the incomparable Thomas Keller losing his shoes.
The Nasty Bits - Anthony Bourdain....mostly a summary of previous magazine articles
But Not the Hippopottumus - Boynton - OK, so I read this to Jack
Currently Reading
A Short History of Nearly Everything - Bill Bryson...for a writer who I have previously warned not to read in public, this is pretty dry (mostly due to subject matter)
Must reads for any lover of travel and cooking: A Cook's Tour by Anthony Bourdain - a fabulous account of one cook's quest for "The Perfect Meal"....the vivid descriptions allow you to smell and taste the meals that he enjoys. His travelling style is also one that I admire... | | | Phred loves to sit on my reading material |
|
| | Music In my car
German Language CD's :(
Sports Radio Drew & Mike
At home Miles Davis - An Evening in Paris Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head Tim McGraw - Live Like You Were Dying (My old friend is a fantastic song !!!) Toby Keith - Greatest Hits Vol II (getting back to my country roots)... |
Cooking My dream job is running a hot dog stand on Hilton Head Island. I wanted to go to Culinary Arts school (might still if I shake the Golden Handcuffs). My retirement plan is to be a bartender....
I enjoy cooking complex and entertaining meals for friends and family... These productions sometimes take me most of a day, but I strangely am relaxed and rested afterwards...
Lately, I have been experimenting with Charcuterie...I have made homemade sausages of every imaginable type, my own bacon - both American and Canadian, Corned Beef, Pulled Pork | | | A typical Valencian Lunch ??? |
