Langeman or giants have an important role in the city's life since the 14th century. They lived alone, never got married and only came outside during a procession.

The Soldier

Soldier from around 1930s. For 130 years until 1956 there was an army in Hasselt. You can find this soldier in front of the 'Refugehouse' and former army base. The statue stands where the sentry box used to be.

Dr. Willems was an important person in Hasselt.

Speculaasmannetje

Speculaas is a Hasselt's delicacy. It's kind of a sweet spicy biscuit, first made at the end of the 14th century.

The Birds

These birds are the symbol of solidarity between the sister cities Itami (Japan), Foshan (China) and Hasselt. You can find the same birds in Itami and Foshan.

 Looks verz chique and promising from the outside. Service was bad, long waiting. uruguan steaks were shoebottom, salad was just big salade leaves no decent dressing nor creativ plate, the shrimps and chicken were overcooked, the parma discount quality.

 Hi Helga, Thanks for visiting my Colombia page :-) Somehow I missed Hasselt when I was in Belgium a few years ago, so maybe I'll have to go back again one day.
