Tel Aviv Scenes +Old Buildings

Sunset

Sunset in Tel Aviv
On this page I shall put photos of various scenes in Tel Aviv.

This picture is taken from the balcony of a restaurant in the Opera Tower, 1 Allenby Street (see Shopping Tips). Whist there we watched the sunset and this is one of the photos I took.
Tel Aviv Seashore
The name of the street running along the seafront is Hayarkon Street. Many hotels are spread out the length of this street and there is a very nice promenade going its length too. As you can see, not many people are on the beach at 10am in the morning. When this photo was taken it wasn't the swimming season yet, although the weather was very nice.
Clock With Hebrew Numerals
The Great Synagogue located just east of the Shalom Tower, is still active. The beautifully ornate building was erected in 1926 and renovated in 1970. The synagogue is constructed with a huge dome and showcases arched and magnificent stained glass windows. The glass windows are replications of windows of synagogues in Europe that were destroyed during the Holocaust. Saturday prayers are open to the public. Head coverings and modest dress is a requirement upon entry.

The photo shows a clock with Hebrew numerals. It is situated on the east side of the Great Synagogue. I don't think too many people are aware of this clock. I noticed it because I have a friend working exactly opposite it. I shall try and find out if there is a story attached to this clock. I find it very special.

Carmel Market - Nachlat Binyamin
This is the junction where Allenby Street meets King George and Sheinkin Streets. This is a very busy corner.
Here you see the Allenby Street entrance to Nachlat Binyamin (r) and Shuk Hacarmel (l). Take note of all the birds sitting on the electric wires.
Turn of Century House
This is the house directly opposite the one I visited in my "Must See Activities". Hopefully the owner will renovate one day. It is a pity to lose such a a house from the turn of the century. The house is located at Rehov Beer Hoffman, off Rehov Eilat, between Jaffa and Tel Aviv. It was to this spot that 157 American Protestants, members of the Church of the Messiah, came in 1866, to help prepare the Holy Land for the return of the Jewish people.
The old Jerusalem Hotel
This building, located near the above building, was once a hotel called Jerusalem Hotel. Notice the edge of the roof of the building which is crenellated
10 Auerbach Street
As you can see the outside of this building is from wood. General area as above buildings.
See my "must see activities".
Old building
This old building is situated on the corner of Rothchild Blvd. and Betzalel Yafe Street - Not far from Allenby Street. I find this type of building so interesting to look at. At least it is not falling down like some buildings. I do notice though, that the municipality is doing something about very old buildings - but I think the funding comes from people willing to put money into renovation and not from the municipality.
