Murals

by Rixie - last update: Sep 30, 2006

I love the colors in this Parisian mural. When I stopped to take this photo, I was almost left behind.
This mural camouflages a commercial garage on Fourth Street in San Rafael, California. It was painted by students in a San Rafael High School art class, 1995. Note the international landmarks, Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Golden Gate Bridge, Sphinx, Buddha, etc.

Curious neighbors
Amusing mural in Rotterdam. If you don't have any neighbors, create them yourself.
Mural next to the bar in the Maya Restaurant, Sonoma, California. I think we blinded a few drinkers when we took this picture!
Mayan scene
Wouldja look at that??
Do you get the feeling you're being watched? I photographed this mural in Fort Bragg, California.
This beautiful mural of Sonoma Valley, created by artist Claudia Wagar, has graced a wall near the Plaza in Sonoma, California, for years. It includes familiar sites like City Hall, General Vallejo's house, the Mission, and Jack London's Wolf House (Glen Ellen).

To see more of Wagar's work (she sells prints, notecards, and other items more portable than this!), please refer to www.claudiawagar.com.

Artist Bill Cochran specializes in "trompe l'oeuil" murals. This one is on a building in Frederick, Maryland.

For photos of his amazing work on the Community Bridge, see my Frederick travelogue, "The Amazing Fool-the-Eye Bridge."
Well, okay, so murals are usually on walls. But I couldn't resist including this Southwest "mobile mural/collage" on a VW Bug, taken at Jazzfest 2003 in New Orleans.

(For some knockout murals on a building in San Francisco's Mission District, see my travelogue, Marvelous Mujeres.)
