Up to the Piazza San Marco We arrived at the square via the Canal. It is a crowdy place - but of course a topic in this city. The impressive Basilica and also the prices in the pubs or many restaurants. Other highlights on this Piazza : - Palace of the Doges - The Campanile - The clock tower ( this days under reconstruction) - Bridge of Sighs (bridge of the condamned) San Marco is a place where you have to take time - enjoy the architecture. But you need also to go in the different buildings. You will see some jewels of art like paintings |
| | Palace of Doges You will be impressed arriving on the square via the Canal Grande - this is the first Palace you will see ! |
Palace of Doges Special architecture ! One of the eyecatchers on San Marco Official residence of Doges who ruled Venice from 697 - 1759.
| | The Piazetta On the left of the Basilica - a view on the Piazetta ! |
Portal to the Basilica A joy for the eyes - the Portal of the Basilica ! The mosaic by Liboria Salandri
| | Portal to the Basilica Impressive portals (in total 5) - beautiful paintings and famous religious sculptures ! |
El Paron de Casa Campanile (El paron de casa - like the locals call it ) is simply one the most popular touristic spots in Venice ! The height is about 100M - you can climb to the top - a view on Venice and especially the square from here must be worthed the income fee. But you need time and patience to enter.
| | The entrance Make a queue and look in the meantime at the electrical street lamps all over the place !! Because it will take time to enter the tower, but the overview on the city must be fantastic |

Gpetita Mon May 12, 2008 12:28 UTC Lovely photos of Venice. Did you bump into Romeo and Juliet when you were in Venice ;)) | fachd Sun Mar 23, 2008 10:58 UTC Luc I love Venice, it was a pity we were there for only two nights, and one day at Burano Island. Next time we will stay longer. Your Venice page is great. | lynbrown Sun Sep 2, 2007 20:50 UTC The self service restaurant called Chat Qui Rit is worth a visit to see just how rude the cashier and manager can be. They are unbelieveable. | christine.j Wed Jan 10, 2007 12:00 UTC I'm going back to Venice in March and I can't wait! But I think I'll skip your idea of going up in a balloon, and I'm afraid, the 1000 $ glass figurines will have to stay in the shop. |
