| T-shirt logo I drew for our bball team |
This page is dedicated to Anuk Markalanda, Kusumal Silva & Kalyani Markalanda. I've always wanted to draw like them. I'm not even close to their creativity and style but they showed me at a young age that it was cool to be able to draw. I also want to acknowledge some VT friends for encouraging me to put my drawings up and for giving me the idea to put my drawings up especially Ankhesenamun, thevoyager, and sarita76. Check out their pages for some cool artwork. I'd also like to thank Ana-Luize Matei for getting me to start drawing again. I haven't drawn in a long time. I started to spend time on drawing when I was 21-22. That was the only creative time in my life. I've actually only got a few drawings that I'm proud of. I will put more up as I have time to. I usually have stories behind the drawings, so when I have time, I will also include them. Please let me know what you think. This 1st picture is inspired from the Sri Lankan flag. My cousin and I started a team to compete in all Lankan basketball league a few years ago. We chose the name the "Warriors" because we all liked the old Run TMC warriors and at the time the Warriors had cool players like Tim Hardaway, Chris Webber, Chris Mullin, and Latrel Sprewell. I decided to make some T-Shirts and drew this because it was an All-Lankan tournament. I think it turned out cooler than the flag (just kidding). |
| | Inspired by a Dream I drew this one because I kept having a recurring dream about this character when I was younger. I think I might have been this guy in a previous life.
First I'll discuss the picture, and then get to my dream and my wierd hypothesis. The 2 loops around his neck symobolize how 2 lives can be intertwined and how a small part of one can be inside the other. If this was a former life, I believe the person(my former self) might have been in a militia and also a farmer. The stick being sharpened might be a weapon or might be used for sowing seeds. I left no shirt on because I believe he was a common man. He's wearing a sarama because he might have been in Sri Lanka. But, he's wearing the head wrap because he might have been from somewhere else--Sri Lankans don't traditionally wear turbans. Actually, I messed up drawing the hair, but thought making a turban type wrap would give him some balance.
Now about the recuring dream I used to have (I'll talk in the 1st person, since I think this might be a previous life). I had come back from a long journey. I was surprised to find that my wife had been pregnant while I was gone and was ready to give birth. I was disappointed I had to be away for so long. When the baby was born, she was deformed. She had little stubs for hands. But, she also had the most beautiful dark black eyes. It also turned out that my wife became depressed and somehow had felt guilty about having a deformed child. A few days later, I died in a fire. There was a family stuck in a large burning building and I went in to see who was still inside. In my dream, I heard a child scream and then felt something heavy fall on me.
I'm not 100% sure that this is actually some past life thing, but it's cool to think so. Maybe I'm hoping that there's more to me than my current borning life :). Your readings of this dream is welcome.
One more wierd thing: one of my friends father who is a very smart man said that he was told he would never be successful academically because he had burned down a school in a previous life. When he told me this, I got chills down my spine. Both my mom and dad, have said they've had similar dreamst too; my dad said he was a tyrant and my mom says she was a child that drowned in a well.
I also have another dream about a totally different life too. But I haven't drawn any pictures about that yet. |
| | My Left Fist This might be the only drawing I've done in one sitting. It's supposed to be my left fist. This started out as just scribbles and then it kind of started looking like a fist. So I held my fist until and tried to duplicate it with my right hand. I have very veiny hands, so it's not an exageration.
Also, I admired the black panther movement. It's one of the most incredible youth movements to have brought about so much change. I mention them again in my Oakland page. |
a few more to come I have a few more drawings that I have saved from my creative days. I will post them up later. I actually started drawing a picture again for the first time in 3 years thanks to having a great email converstion with a friend. Hopefully I'll finish that up and put it up with my next update to this page.
Hope you've enjoyed. thanks for checking it out. |
