Van der Pigge

The only original building between the Verwulft and the former Paardesteeg alley is the "Van der Pigge"-drugstore. Nowadays they sell coffee, tea and tobacco, have a nice collection of pipes and a small but well-stocked humidor.

Lunch

The building around the Van der Pigge shop is the V&D department store. The plan was to enjoy a view of the city from the La Place restaurant on the sixth floor. Unfortunally the week before renovation works were started and so we had our lunch at the fifth floor without the spectecular view.

Socks

Amongst the merchandise these colourfull toe-socks were on display.

Verwulft

We crossed the Verwulft and went to the Gedempte Oude Gracht where preparations were made for the arrival of the Flower Parade.

Kleine Houtstraat

Another nice shopping street is the Kleine Hout straat. Via the Korte Veer straat we went over the Melkbrug to the Spaarne river.

Jonas in de Wallevis

On the corner house the story of Jonas and the Whale is displayed by three "gevelstenen".

Please enlarge the picture to see all three stones.

Tipping Over

At the Korte Spaarne these houses almost are tipping over. A special construction is made to prevent the frontwall to move further.

Gravestenenbrug

The oldest foundations of this bridge are dating from around 1200. The present bridge was build in 1950.
