Tel Aviv has lots of interesting architecture and I love to look at old buildings that have been rebuilt - but leaving the outer shell as it was when first built. I have yet to take photos of these buildings, but today I passed a building (see photos), that is situated at 181 Hayarkon Street - it is certainly 'different'. I do know that the outside has been cleaned during the past few months. This is a picture of the (l to r) front, back of building and front door.
The Architect of this building was influenced by Antoni Gaudi who lived around the turn of the century; whose style was singular and eccentric, spontaneous and whimsical, his buildings almost chaotic in appearance. Gaudi was, is, and will always be controversial. Most of his works are located in and around Barcelona, and several are now protected by UNESCO. I now understand that the architect of this building is a Mrs. Menasha, but I know no more. A friend's daughter just happens to know the architect's daughter and that is how I got this information. |
| Tuscan-style villa, Tel Aviv |
| | 46 Rothschild Boulevard Tel Aviv Tel: 03-560 1666 Fax: 03-560 8111 Sotheby's is housed in an elegant landmark Tuscan-style villa in the heart of Tel Aviv's vibrant financial district.
I love this building and watched it being renovated. There are many buildings in Tel Aviv, which are also real nice, and I hope to add some more to this page. I have been here to see an exhibition of paintings (of various artists). The exhibition was held in a hall on the side of the building. |
| 50 Nachlat Binyamin, Tel Aviv |
| | This building at 50 Nachlat Binyamin, corner Ahad Ha'am Street I have always called Peltours, as I worked there many years ago in the incoming tourism department. The offices, entrance ground floor as seen in the photo, have been turned into a restaurant. This building was built in 1926 in the European and Middle Eastern style. |
| 49 Rothschild Blvd., Tel Aviv |
| | This building was built in the 1920's by the architect Hershkovitz. |
| 12-14 Rothschild Blvd., Tel Aviv |
| | This building, unfortunately, has not yet been renovated and I don't know if it will be. Go into the courtyard and look around. The balcony shown is on the side as you go out of the courtyard. I think it's very pretty. Whilst standing in the courtyard look around and you will see other buildings which may interest you. |
| 27 Rothschild Street, Tel Aviv |
| | This building has three floors - each built with different materials. |
| 29 Rothschild Street, Tel Aviv |
| | This building is situated at 29 Rothschild Blvd. corner Allenby Street. Look up and you will see a picture on the wall next to the balcony on the left, second floor. Also notice the design on the balconies, like a candelabra. |
| Crn. Allenby Street & Rothschild Blvd. |
| | To take this photo I stood at 32 Rothschild Blvd. It is on the corner of Allenby Street and Rothschild Blvd. This is a very busy junction. Notice the design at the top of the building. Also the windows on the Rothschild Blvd. side are different than those facing Allenby Street. This is because the architect wanted both sides to fit in with the view on each side. |
