North Karelia, Finland 8/2003 We couldn't get out of the country in summer because of Mika's (my fiance) studies so instead we decided to take a short break in Eastern Finland in North Karelia. We drove from Tampere to Joensuu and stayed rather close to it in the municipality of Tuupovaara at a summer cottage. We drove around the area every day and visited also Koli which is the official Finnish national scene. As you can see from the photo, our dog Viivi was with us as well. She loves the car rides and it wasn't too hot so it was an easy decision to take her along. I hadn't been to Karelia since I was a child, so I cannot claim I remembered all places we saw... Unfortunately we weren't blessed with the weather, it rained on a couple of days and otherwise it was cloudy. Only the day we started driving home was sunny --of course!

Athens, Greece 4/2003 Weknew we cannot travel out of the country in summer, so we decided to spend the Easter break abroad instead, because Mika had extra days off. We booked a last minute one-week-travel and ended up in a city little warmer than Tampere, but not as much as you would think, I bet! This was my second visit to Athens, and I did what I "threatened" to do if I ever come back: visit also Meteora :)))

Meteora, Greece 4/2003 During the week in Athens we rented a car for a day and drove 400 km north of Athens to see these amazing mountains and the monasteries on top of them. It was the highlight of the whole week.

Santorini Island 9/2002 The most beautiful island on the Mediterranean?
This is a special holiday for me for 3 reasons. I loved the island a lot, this was the first holiday abroad for Mika and me together and... this is where we got engaged :) It was so romantic, getting engaged on the sea on a deck of that old sailing boat at sunset... The whole island is romantic :) I knew it before we'll get engaged on our autumn break and wanted to choose the destination according to that, and I'm so glad we chose Santorini Island :)
