Family Activities in Hayarkon Park

by Jackiekg - last update: Apr 20, 2003

Transportation in the Park!

Hayarkon Park
Hayarkon Park is Tel Aviv's largest public park (over 1000 acres) combining vast green meadows with exotic gardens and Israel's largest playground. In this travelogue I am going to give information and photos about some of the activities.
Location: Hata'arucha Road, North Tel Aviv. Free access and lots of parking.
Zapari - Aviary

Zapari

An obvious play on the word tzipor (bird) and safari, it is a wonderful green oasis with a large topiary full of birds.

Thousands of birds including flamingos, swans, parrots and hundreds of other bird species can all be found at the Zapari. The feathered creatures are from various corners of the globe, including Indonesia, West Guinea, and Senegal etc. While many of the birds are in small cages there are also larger areas (with a high ceiling net) where the birds are out in the ‘open’.

The Zapari also offers a petting area where youngsters can feed the animals as well as a mock African village, called Junga-Junga where children can play on large inflatable toys and generally just have fun.

Visiting Hours: Sunday – Thursday 10am – 4pm, Friday and holiday eves, 9am– 3pm, Saturday and holidays, 10am– 6pm. Summer hours (May – August) are as follows: Sunday – Thursday 9am – 5pm, Friday and holiday eves, 9am –3pm, Saturday and holidays, 10am –7pm (and sometimes even 8pm).

Entry fees: 46 NIS/pp, (age two and up).
Tel: 03-642 2888, 03-642 2828.
Kids Play
These type of playgrounds are very popular now. This photo was taken at a week-end bazaar in the park.
Balloons for Sale
If your child likes balloons - no shortage here.
Handicrafts in the Park
Handicrafts for children are also popular. Gives the parents a little rest! Of course, this is good for the child too.
Ostriches
Ostriches in the park. What can I write about them?
Ganei Yehoshua Lake
How about boating on the lake?
There are also peddle boats there.
Sailing on lake from 9am - 7pm daily.
Tel: 03-642 0541.
Beautiful Israel Centre
There are many other activities in the park including:
Mini Golf - 03-699 0229
Puppet Theatre - 03-643 0790
Tropical Gardens - 03-642 2828
Memadion Water Park -03-642 2777

One of my favourite places is the
Beautiful Israel Centre (see photo) - The Movement For A Beautiful Israel aims to improve the country's appearance and quality of life. Situated on the banks of the Yarkon River, it houses a library of material on local nature, gardening and related subjects. Here there is also a lovely restaurant overlooking the Yarkon River.
School-children come here during term time to learn about ecology. Behind the building is the "Dan Abraham Garden and Amphitheater."
Approx. 200 meters from the junction of Rokach Blvd. and Derech Namir.
Open: 8am - 6pm. Tel: 03-6423111.
