Typical New Orleans architecture: pastel buildings with wrought-iron balconies. Note the yellow ribbons tied to the posts, a reminder of the war in Iraq.
Vendors at the French Market prepare to open
The French Market is one-stop shopping. You can buy everything from Tabasco sauce to Saints caps to jewelry at the booths.
Bookseller at French Market
This bookseller may have been snoozing, but I got the impression that if anyone had reached out a hand to steal a book, he would have been awake in a flash!

The interesting thing is that my daughter photographed this same man last year...except that he was conscious and upright at the time.
Kelly and me, by a fountain with a jazz theme
Windblown next to the river
On an earlier trip to New Orleans, we took a paddlewheel steamer on an excursion up the Mississippi River.
The steamboat Natchez
New Orleans musician
Vendors and street musicians are everywhere in the Jackson Square area. Here, a musician takes a break between songs.
Shoeshine stand, Jackson Square
The mystery to me was: Whom did these shoes belong to? I didn't see any barefoot tourists in the crowd.

The Café du Monde is one of my favorite places in New Orleans. Here I am, full of beignets. .(See restaurant tips)

Fantastic tips. I'm so ready for the ghost tour and tour of the City of the Dead. What a wonderful intro to New Orleans.

Ummm Ummmm. Those food tips are splendid. I love NO cookery. :) And, that's a great B&B tip, too.
