I left for the US Virgin Islands in the first week of March and this is where I currently reside. I'm thoroughly enjoying the heat and sunshine (something so rare in England), whilst detesting the mosquitos, who have colourfully decorated my legs. Am continuing to enjoy the views from the balcony on which I sunbathe when I can. The safari taxis have lost their appeal somewhat. It's a great ride, but so expensive. The crazy neighbour now has a name, Gail, and her shoutings across the fence have lessoned. She's actually rather sweet, offering me lifts to the beach and shops, although she really can be heard mile away, with her NY drawl. Otto, the German Shephard dog, calls by at 8am and leaves when we go in for dinner. Probably because we feed him beef jerky, and other things dogs aren't supposed to have.
St John is definitely my favourite US Virgin Island, because it's so unspoilt compared to St Thomas. Trunk Bay is beautiful. I went on my first sailing trip on Saturday (4th April), calling at the British VI's and St John. Of course it rained for 90% fo the day, but I had fun. My most memorable moment was trying to jump off the boat. My fear of drowning wouldn't let me jump, so I shimmied down the side of the boat instead. Very unglamourous, but safer nonetheless (in my mind at least, and that's good enough!).
