Whither the US of A ? The Questioning goes on...

by drolkar - last update: May 13, 2003

March 29th, 2003

The Italian peace flag on Boston Common...

What was most striking for me about this rally was the sheer range of groups that participated -- "Veterans for Peace," trade unions, teachers' unions, church groups, communists, an alliance of Native Americans from New England, the Nation of Islam, the Green-Rainbow Party, "Lesbians for Peace"... and a great many individuals and families who (like myself) just showed up without having any particular affiliation, as a way of expressing their sentiments about this war.

The actual march around downtown Boston (which occurred after these photos were taken) took nearly three hours, and the mood was peaceful... yet determined.

The photos that follow convey a sense of what people were thinking...
"I Support Our Troops -- Not Bush's War"... a very important distinction to make.
"Capitalist Lackeys Against War" -- one of my favorite signs with a humorous twist !
"Support Our Troops -- Don't Let Their Lives Be Wasted in a War for Profit" -- from the Progressive Labor Party
"I am a person, not a statistic!" is written in red on this man's white drape.
"To the World -- We are Sorry"
The counter-protest... and perhaps the most disturbing sign I saw -- "U.S. Military Victory Tour:

March 02 - Kabul
March 03 - Baghdad
March 04 -- Paris"
