You saw the Pagoda picture on the main Nara page, but this is the ornate (brass?) spire at the peak.
It was a rainy day & grey skies, so there's no colour to it, unfortunately. |

|  | Oh, deer, deer, me... Deer are considered sacred animals here, and roam freely through the city... well, within certain park areas, and around the temples, at least.
They were originally regarded as divine messengers of one of the Shinto gods, and anyone who killed a deer would receive the same fate.
During WWII, their numbers were down to about 70, but now they're up to a thousand, making it a bit hazardous for small children, and a nuisance to picknickers. |
