Who was Dochia?

This is a story...so, kids, have a sit, relax and enjoy a legend 2000 years old. We, romanians, think that every legend is based on some truth. So, think abou it for a while...

2000 years ago, on this land lived a wise kind of people, called 'daci'. They were "the wisest and the most courageos people among the 'tracs'" (Herodot). The land was covered in fields with grains, green forests, and it was, like today, a beautefull land. But, somewhere arround 100 DC the powerfull Roman Empire decided to conquest Dacia. The fight was long, and the dacs fought fearfull for theyr land and freedome. Unfortunately, the romans were better prepared, and you all know the Roman Empire... they were wariors. So, the dacs were defeated and, as so many times before, they hide in the mountains. Dochia was the doughter of Burebista, the leader of the dacs. And she fought bravely by her father's side. When the Dacs retreat to the mountains she remained behind to cover the tracs, than, with the last hord of sheeps and she was sourrounded by roman soldiers. So, she run but, when climing the mountain she almost got cought by a roman soldier. Seeing that she has no chance of escaping, she prayed Zalmoxis (the powerfull god protector of Dacia) not to let her be a slave in a roman house, and Zalmoxis heard her prayers and turn her into a stone up in the mountain. Arround her you can still see smaller stones, the sheeps she was hording, and tousands of people are comung year by year to see her and to hear this legend. Of course, the story is differnet from zone to zone, but the essence is the same. Not far away from Dochia, you can see Traian's Eagle, trapt in stone for eternity. This eagle was Traian Caesar's personal pet, and he hounted Dochia 'till the end. When Zalmoxis turned Dochia into stone, the sheeps and the eagle suffered the same faith....
Well, kids, that's the story about Dochia the brave girl of Dacia.

To Dochia

How can you get to Dochia?

Well, Dochia is a caban, named after the girl.

From Izvorul Muntelui you can get to it using different roads. One is Poiana Maicilor, from Izvorul Muntelui takes about 6 hours to the top, is an easy climb and the view is absolutely great! Somewhere at the midle of it you can see the whole mountain from a safe distance, top to bottom, like a wall of stone, and on top you can see Dochia, the caban.

Next climb road is Lutul Rosu, about 4 hours of climbing, and is the winter road. Is kind of difficile climb, but it worth every minute of it!

Another way is Zaruri. Somewhere on the climb there are two giant cubic stones, throwend like in a game on the path. It takes about 6 hours to get to the top.

Of course, there are some path to follow to get to Dochia, but I really don't know them all.

On the other side af the mountain, you can get to Dochia using a few path, like:

From Durau through Fantanele Caban, Duruitoarea Fall, so on, so on.

Of course, Mount Ceahlau offers great view, and better accomodation every year. On Durau there are several hotels (i'll post it later), and there are three cabans (Izvorul Muntelui and Fantanele Cabans at the bottom, and Dochia Caban at the top), and at the top there are Dochia Monastery and the Meteo Observatory, on the peak called Toaca.
