This Statue was dedicated by King Kalakaua in 1883. With this event Kalakaua was hoping to revitalize the Native Hawaiian population. At the time of the dedication of the Statue, the Hawaiian population was down from 300.000 at Hawaiian's discovery by Captain Cook to only
44.088 people. The efforts were in vain and after 10 years the Kalakaua
monarchy was ended. |

Had a wonderful (short though) visit with them.2 bad that the sun goes down so quickly now & that it was raining.They didn't get to Miss. until late so that made it hard.But we had fun! Hope to see them again in Dec. YES the cooler weather thank goodness! | Hexepatty Fri May 11, 2007 02:20 UTC
