My Opinions, Voice Your Opinions Too!

by SumTingWong - last update: Jan 17, 2006

Symbol of Tibet

Free Tibet

My prayers are with the people of Tibet. They lost their sovereignty and have been struggling ever since. The Chinese stole these people's hopes and dreams. Over 1 million peaceful and innocent Tibetans have lost their lives. As the Buddha said, "When ones life is in danger they tremble in fear, this proves the importance and value of life." Nonviolence to all the living creatures on this earth is essential. I hope that the people of Tibet will one day be able to raise their flag and rule over their peaceful land! I do not blame Chinese people, and do not want to offend anybody. I realize the issue is deep and that nothing, as far as politics are concerned, will change anytime soon. I love China too :-)

What do the children of Palestine see: fear

Middle East Peace - Free Palestine

The people of Palestine deserve the human right of their state. They have lived without democracy and land for far too long. The Palestinian people deserve a nation in which they will have democratic human rights. Stop the Israeli settlements in Palestinian land; let these people have their nation, under the will of democracy and human rights!! Isreal also desirves its own safe and free from terror state.
UN

The UN

I completely support the UN. For international disputes the UN must be seen as higher than any single nation. All nations should be treated equally, so the veto right must also be stopped, as well as permanent members of the Security Council.

My personal answers

1) My favorite continent to visit: ASIA

2) What do I think of missionaries: brainwashed and brainwash others

3) Am I a smoker: NO

4) What do I think of tourism: Well, this is a tough question... to be honest I do love it, as does just about everybody on virtual TOURIST. However, there is really no doubt in my mind that in many cases, a majority of cases at that, tourist only leads to corruption of other cultures. Therefore there is a right way to travel and a wrong way. What to do is to not bring your culture to another society, but humbly try to fit into theirs.

5) My religion: Buddhist (Southern Buddhism, major religion of Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam) but I always keep an open mind and respect people of all faiths. Religion is fine, all religion is, but we must remember that religion is simply a theory and that nobody is right or wrong. I don't like any types of fanatics

6) How many languages do I speak: 5

7) What I think is the largest threat to our world: My best answer to this question would be Nuclear Weapons and War. However, without a doubt we are killing ourselves through global warming and pollution. The rise of Fundamental Islam and 'fundamentalism' of any sort is simply horrifying and is a huge threat as well.

Important Quotations

"Let none find fault with others; let none see the omission and commission of others. But let one see one's own acts, done and undone."
- DHAMMAPADA 50

"Je suis en d?saccord avec ce que vous dites, mais je d?fendrai votre droite de le dire!"
- Voltaire

"The victorious ones have said
That emptiness is the relinquishing of all views.
For whomever emptiness is a view,
That one will accomplish nothing."
- Nagarjuna

"Giving up desire is the joy of perfect rest."
- Fo Sho Hing Tsan King

"He who treats the path in ernest
Sees not the mistakes of the world;
If we find falt with others
We ourselves are also in the wrong."
- The Sutra of Hui Neng

"Whatever harm an enemy may do to an enimy, or a hater to a hater, an ill-directed mind inflicts on oneself greater harm."
- DHAMMAPADA 42

"As sweet as honey, thinks a fool an evil deed, so long as it bears no fruit;
But when it bears fruit, then the fool comes to grief."
- DHAMMAPADA 69

"Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."
- Mahatma Gandhi

FRIENDS AND RESPECT:

"Do not choose bad friends.
Do not choose persons of low habbits.
Select good friends. Be discriminating.
Choose the best."
- DHAMMAPADA

It is one's moral obligation to show respect for all people, religions, and walks fo life. Therefore, government's purpose is to "protect man from man, not man from himself" -Locke By keeping government, and all governments secular (non-religious) and free, insures liberty and ideal respect.

PEACE

"We may shout, 'Let there be peace!' but this won't really bring peace. Peace will appear in the world around us only when each individual learns to tame the disturbances arising within his or her own mind. Then, peace will come automatically."
- Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche

NO God NO Soul = ANATTA

"The Buddha's teaching does not support this ignorance, weakness, fear, and desire, but aims at making man enlightened by removing and destroying them, striking at their very root. According to Buddhim, the ideas of God and Soul are fales and empty. Though highly developed as theories, they are all the same extremely subtle mental projections, garbedin an intricate metaphysical and philosophical phraseology. These ideas are so deep-rooted in man, and so near and dear to him, that he does not wish to hear, nor does he want to understand, any teaching against them.
The Buddha knew this quite well. In fact, he said that his teaching was "against the current", against man's selfish desires. Just four weeks after his enlightenment, seated under a banyan tree, he thought to himself: "I have realized this Truth which is deep, difficult to see, difficult to understand... comprehensable only be the wise... Men who are overpowered by passions and surrounded by a mass of darkness cannot see the this Truth, which is against the current, which is lofty, deep subtle, and hard to comprehend.'"

- Walpola Rahula
