"Da Vinci Exhibit" Personal Page by newyorkerman

Five VT memers met on Saturday, March 8th, for lunch and to see the first exhibit in this country of the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci. Besides myself, there was Ani (Wanderlust2), Chris (cjg1), Tamir (Tamirros) and Yon (Penpoison).

After a nice chance to chat and get to know the ones who had never been to a VT get together, we went for a stroll in Central Park to enjoy the beautiful weather we got that day. Tamir has posted a few pics on his homepage from that day, taken, as usual, with his amazing eye for photography. We were later joined at the museum by Nathalie B.

For myself, this exhibit really was unique, and, given the limitations of the show, very well presented. It starts with the work of Da Vinci's teacher, from which you can see how this extraordinary genius developed his technique. A significiant portion of the exhibit is the private property of Queen Elizabeth (thanks, all you Brits who read this!). The exhibit is entirely sketches, so it doesn't have the impact of a collection of fully realised works, but it is interesting to see how the artist played with images to get the effect he wanted.

Great company and a special experience of world art! All in all, a real VT day!
