King Louis XIV wishes to let an unforgettable memory of his reign, and, malgrès the mockeries of the court on " the gully of Riquet ", he orders, by stop of the advice of January 18, 1663, that the project is examined on the places of the future realization...

It offers, in facade on the streets, the beautiful well-off appearance of its buildings. Life in the streets is always very active.
But, the true face of Toulouse, its intimate character, hides behind the heavy portals of wood, to duplicate lift. It is behind these doors carriage entrances that the secret treasures of Toulouse let themselves admire.

The big majority among them will escape the aware, and only tourist a guide knowing the city well will be there susceptible of you to take...

Space, aeronotic, new technologies : a modern town

Toulouse saw its economy diversifying, in particular with the apparition of the state-of-the-art technologies : aeronautics, the spatial industry and electronics.
Its University, the second of France, strong of 110 000 students distributed in four academic poles, 14 big schools where are formed, every year, several thousands of engineers and technicians, encourage, in Toulouse, the flight of research (10 000 researchers) but must not make forget the more traditional sectors of the economy : the handicraft, the tourism, the trade and the sector of the services.

Fine art's life

With a national theater, a lyric theater, a classic concert room, the Zenith (room of big capacity concerts), several theaters and rooms of spectacles, several room of concerts, several museums, of which Les Abattoirs the Modern Art Museum (the museums are free open the first Sunday of every month), a film library, a library and a media library in construction, Toulouse is a city very well equipped on the cultural plan.

To it the numerous musical bars are added, the private rooms of spectacle, the rooms in the suburb (in Colomiers, Blagnac, Ramonville...), the Cultural Centers, the Houses of the Young and the Culture....
