Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 was a day to remember more for just being the day of our big BLOWOUT PARTY.
Friday night at the Buena Vista was a very memorable time with the VTers I met. I was excited to meet up with them again to tour Alcatraz.
As I was preparing for the day and rushing to gather all my things that morning, I turn on the television. At the same time, I receive a phone call from a friend. He says, "Watch the news." Right then, immediately my mobile phone beeps with a text message from Athens: "Watch the news, Geisha."
Later I come to find several VT emails come through to Geisha_Girl to notify her to "Watch the news."
Sadly, it was the day the Space Shuttle Columbia exploded and we lost the lives of the brave Astronauts on board. My heart froze. I dropped everything I was doing and stayed glued to the news. My thoughts? Should we go on? Should we proceed with this "party?"
It was the same guilty feeling I had for putting together a friend's birthday that took place right after the 9/11 attacks.
I stayed glued to the news but I knew I had a commitment to fulfill. I gathered my things and left the house. Still glued to the radio news, I thought: The whole premise for this "different" kind of VT meeting was to celebrate what? LIFE! Get a group of folks together to celebrate life.
So we shall.......And we did.....And the memories of those lives lost will stay with us forever.
Just as the day of our "VT CELEBRATION" will stay with us forever. The show must go on. |

unlike sexy betty blue, my dasha is aging. her temper flared up last night and she began to overheat. :( so she's with the car doctor now getting some much needed work done! |
