Into Torino On 15 January I will be making my way, through whatever depths of snow that has fallen on Buffalo, towards Buffalo International Airport. After the long check in lines at American Airlines, I will board a flight for Heathrow in London. There, I hope to be on time, and to clear customs easily.
From there, I hope to run into one Captainmitch, who has written provacative forum postings and got a good laugh on all of us, and have a nice Gin and Tonic. After forming this new friendship, I must change terminals from one to four and catch the KLM flight that will wing me off to the city of "Grasshoppers" coffee houses and wooden shoe factories. Sorry to say, I will be there only long enough to change planes. Probably for the best, as the last time I was in the Netherlands it was so windy and raining so hard that I left the train in Den Haag. Whilst killing time in that city I went to the prison where they are trying Slobodan Milosevitch and attempted to visit him. The youngish man (guard) who was at the desk was totally shocked and he said, "I do not not normally work here.", "I am just sitting at the desk today , you should return when the normal man is at his posting." He let me leave a note for Slobo, but questioned me thoroughly about why I would want to visit him. I would like to speak to him about the atrocities he has committed, and his lack of remorse over them. It was nice leaving a scathing note for the Butcher of Beograd! But he was certain that there were not visits allowed outside of his wife and daughter.
From there I change to another carrier KLM and at the end of a very very long day land in Torino (Turin), the city that will me my home and base of exploration for the next eight months.
I have been here looking up information on that fair city and have learned a wealth of it, and have even got a couple of VT members living there who are willing to meet me for a coffee and some conversation.
Bravo! I have not been out of New York since I went for a week to Florida in August. |
