In Old Chichén the most important building is the Observatory, called El Caracol (the Big Snail) by Spaniards for its winding staircase inside. The windows on the dome are in line for the apparition of some stars in a precise date. From here the priests decided the suitable time for rituals, celebrations, sowings and crops. |
