Flax Museum

Location of the National Flax museum :
Etienne Sabbelaan nr 4 ( at ‘t Hoge not far from the Halls)
The Flax museum shows a the history of the Flax industry in this region. In the 19th century the flax industry was one of the most important activities in the region.

The history of the flax industry is brought back to live with more then 50 wax dolls in authentic dresses and with the original tools and machinery’s.
In the building next door you can see the history of linen.

The museum is open from March till December (Monday is closing day)
Entry fees : Adults : 100 Bef, Children : 60 Bef
The museum is accessible for disabled people in a wheel chair.

Streuvels autoroute

This 70-km touristic route explores the South-east of West Flanders, especially the rolling landscape between Leie river and Schelde river. Of old a rich farming region with smooth ridges easing into wide valleys. It offers many enchanting views.
The route is intended as a homage to Stijn Streuvels (1871-1969), the renowned flemish novellist.
The start point of this route is just in front of the Flax museum, this route will take you to kuurne, Harelbeke, Deerlijk, Anzegem and Avelgem.
Following the Schelde river and venturing into east Flanders and Hainault for some distance. it eventually turns to the Bossuit-Kortrijk Canal to lead you back along Moen and St-Denijs.
The route is signposted with blue hexagonals.

Descriptive leaflets are available at the tourist information offices.
