Halawa Valley Hike

by bruingirl - last update: Apr 10, 2003

Halawa Valley

This is the grand Halawa Valley on the northeast corner of the island. It is the most lush part of the island and is all privately owned. Hikes and tours are given by the family members who own this land. If you look closely at this picture, you can see 2 waterfalls. That's where this journey took us......
The beach you see below is where many locals on this side of the island frequent. There are NO tourists down there whatsoever! It's all local Hawaiians!
We hiked into the dense jungle like area, through bushes and trees. There were tiny mosquitos everywhere!

Looking back....

This was the view from the waterfall, looking back to where we came from.

Waterfall at the end of the hike

We hiked all the way into the valley, deep into the forest. Our guide ended up scaling the rocks next to the waterfall and jumping off in the water. I don't know how he did it! The water was soooo cold!! Brrrr!!

Hiking back out

We were surrounded by just green, green, and more green!! The contrast in colors between the green of the earth, the blue of the skies, and white of the clouds was just spectacular!

The rest of the world really CAN fade away when you're on Molokai! Very nice writing on this special place!

Mahalo for Molokai! The Friendly Isle is a short hop from the wild scene on Waikiki, but another World entirely , as you aptly point out.
