Nightlife - Bars & Restaurants

by spartan - last update: Dec 3, 2002

Dance all night long

Do you want to tango?
Puerto Vallarta offers many things to do during the day as well as night. Things don't really get started at night until around 11:00 and lasts until early in the morning. One of the places that I went to a couple of times was a bar called Kaluha's (excellent music -- Rap, R/B, rock, soca, latin and international). There was also 2 for 1 specials on beer all night long. In addition to this place, I highly recommend Mogombo, Carlos O'Brians, The Zoo and Christine's.
The Guacamole Man!!!

First Class Mexican Food

PiPis Restaurant & Bar (On the corner of Guadalupe Sanchez and Pipila) defies logic for Mexico. I mean I was greeted at the door and taken to my table in a matter of minutes. As I sat down, 3 waiters came to the table and took my drink order, explained the specials and provided chips and salsa. This was quick!!! It matched the service in North America and Europe.

Awesome food and margarita's

Next came the Guacamole. Now I'll tell you up front that I'm not a guacamole person, but the mixture served up by PiPis was outstanding. The waiter comes and prepares the dip right at your table. Oh man is this good!!! The food is excellent and the drinks are...well...umm... great...lol...and to top off the evening off, a mariachi band plays your favorite ballads while strolling from table to table.
Man I'm stuffed!!!

Eat and dance on the table at the same time

Another excellent place to eat, throw down a few, dance or just watch is Carlos O'Brians. Located across from the Malecon (boardwalk), this Mexican chain restaurant is lots of fun. Most of the people don't show up until late in the evening, but hey what do you expect, you are on vacation. I recommend the BBQ Ribs, excellent!!! Don't be surprised while you are there that a cute looking senorita comes up to you (in chaps with a holster) and asks if you want a shot of tequila for $20 pesos. Just do it!!!

Owned by Jimmy Buffett

Another restaurant that I would highly recommend is Cheese Burger in Paradise (yes the same one mentioned in the Jimmy Buffett song). On the same stretch of street where Carlos O'Brians is located, but this place is strictly for food, and very good food I must say. The hamburgers are meaty and huge and come with as many condiments as you want. But what I recommend is the Roasted Chicken with Mushroom Sauce and fries. The chichen was so good that it fell of the bones. Muy Bueno!!!
Wasted away in Margaritaville

Any idea on the cost from the airport to Bucerias? Do any buses run that direction at night time? Cheers
