I am a self-confessed foodie... Be it a Bratwurst Sausage and Beer as in this picture taken in November at the Good Food Month Domain 'Brunch', or in a posh restaurant with fine wine in hand - food and drink are two of my major vices!
I am particularly excited about the fact that Sydney supports a huge asian population and that two of my favourite asian cuisines, Thai and Japanese are excellently prepared here and such good value for money! |
| Me with fellow VTers, Tintinlee and Hailun... |
| | Toss another Shrimp on the Barbie! Another great Aussie institution is the barbie and when we have such a fantastic rooftop location for a barbie it would be a crime not to fire it up!!!
Even I can't fail here since the object is to cook the food by basically burning it - if it doesn't look cooked through, burn it some more! |
Monthly Farmer's Markets There are several of these all round Sydney, where Farmers bring their country produce in for us poor city slobs to sample...
As well as the natural cheeses, cured meats, real Aussie bush tucker and organically grown purple potatoes, there is a sizeable 'support staff' of coffee and gelato stalls...
Bring it on - I can take allcomers!
The picture was when with the market outside Star City behind the picture taker, which occurs on the 1st Saturday of the month - come early, else those purple potatoes will sell out!
There is another one on Miller St in North Sydney on the 3rd Saturday and there are regular ones at the Fox Studios near Paddington... | | | Give me Gelati or give me death... |
|
| I'm watching you (and the Pelicans!) |
| | Sydney Fishmarket Got this little number for only AUD$24, you think I can't put all this away? Well hands off!
Apparently the Sydney Fishmarket is the second best in the World for variety! I can tell you that I am slowly making my way through the inventory, but it's taking a while!
I like to walk here every few weeks, sometimes via the Star City farmers market - I figure with all that walking, I'm entitled to a little 'refuelling'... |
Breakfast Bushwalking Style Showing our adaptibility when it comes to food, we ate well during our hike of the Budawangs!
Here we are preparing a traditional 'English Breakfast' of Bacon, Sausages, Eggs, Baked Beans, Tomatoes and Mushrooms - all washed down with a piping hot cup of tea!
Our evening meals were even more elaborate affairs, having carted up a couple of casks of red wine with us. We even had toasted marshmallows over the fire on the last night...
Just cos we're roughing it - doesn't mean that we should rough it as far as our dining standards are concerned! | | | Note the slightly green 'purified' water, Mmmm! |
|
| OK, so I also like my beer... |
| | Sydney's Darling Harbour Yes this area is actually very touristy, but that doesn't stop it from having an excellent selection of reasonably and non so reasonably prices places to eat with generally excellent quality food...
If you're not up to eating, then why not just soak up the atmosphere by taking a stroll around the harbour. |
Octopus on Rhodes Well I figured all the rest of the pics were a bit old so I have updated with a pic of our wonderful Rhodian Seafood Extravaganza at the Argos in Haraki - our first meal in Rhodes!
The meal cost us an arm and a, er, tentacle - but it was mighty fine with octopus and shrimps with Greek salad for start followed by freshly caught and grilled Sea Bream...
MMMMmmmm! | | |
| | The Best of the Best! Oops, caught with my guard down!
That was the name of this little Giros and beer fast food eatery in the New Market of Rhodes New Town - 5 euros for a meal for two. Wonderful stuff! |
