Attention K-Mart shoppers! The Walmart of the High Seas is about to shove off. I was given a trip on this ship. Not something I'd choose to do. I went with a good attitude. Figured I'd relax, have some drinks, eat, and be away from phones, computers, and forums! It was OK for about a day or two, but I wouldn't do it again.
When entering the ship, you'll wait in line for a LONG time. Longer than waiting to check in on an airplane. But then you when you're done and ready to go on the ship, you get a nice 'FUN" foto coming through a cardboard arch. Hey the 'FUN' is already started.
Your state room features beautiful ocean views! Pull back the curtain and admire the endless blue along the horizon...wait what the f***?!
Yes, sitting on deck very high up on the ship and soaking in the pool is quite pleasant. It's one of the few pleasant things to do on the ship. I am a voracious reader, so I did a lot of that, but the general surroundings were like a slow day at magic mountain without the carnival rides, so...
It was cool rolling in and seeing the coast from very high up. Like being on a moving skyscraper (well kind of tall building anyway).
On board you see A LOT of obese people. Even more than you usually see in America. Then it dawned on me. Hey the people who are drawn to this kind of thing, think it's great to able to just sit around all day doing nothing and eating and drinking. It's like being on a Sizzler at Sea. Personally, I find it a little weird to see large people wandering around everywhere on deck eating soft serve ice cream at 9:00 a.m.
Ensenada in Baja Mexico is a dump. You can't get a decent meal here and it really only functions as a very low rent cruise ship stop off spot. Everybody goes to Papas and Beer where the same jackasses you were on board with go ashore to get really drunk with other americans and women are given free drinks if they take their clothes off. Far from the dionysian adventure it sounds like, it's mostly just seedy, cheap and lame. Woohoo! Party!
This is the day before you turn around and have what is charitably called a 'fun day at sea.' That's Carnival speak for an insufferable day cruising at low speed to stretch out the trip and yet not have to dock anywhere. We were sooo ready to be back.
I described standing around on deck on a grey day, hearing the fake Caribbean band lead the listless 3 person "crowd" in a chorus of "we are on the fun ship" as the lifetime low point of my travels. Even below the sudden sweats and belly distress in brazil.
I'd never take a cruise again, except possible a luxury cruise to Alaska. Otherwise, I can't think of a worse way to travel.

Papas and Beer sounds like my kinda place. Free drinks for getting yer kit off! ;)
Hilarious - and all the reasons why I've said I'd never do a cruise. You've just reinforced the decision to go places where I can trash my hiking boots instead of my diet. HA!
I have heard from many who cruised to Mexico on the Kmart cruise lines that is was just a lame party. The only cruise that I have been on was The Yangtzee River in China. That was enjoyable and not to long. Three days would be as long as I could handle.
Haha, I was forced to spend 2 weeks on a cruise this summer, and it was truly abysmal...had a rant on the forums and ruffled a few feathers. Was so tempted to "accidentally" miss the ship at one of the ports! Glad to find another cruise-hater ;@P
nice KMART cruise page! I guess cruises are not for me too because I don't like being on boats for a loooong time...my brother-in-law took the $30,000 African cruise and he said it was ok though (at 30T it should be!)
Worked on there in 2002 hated it! I have visited many places but Italy has to be one of the best, people the friendliest they didn`t even laugh at my attempt to speak Italian!!! An Italian friend showed me round the less tourist parts of Venice (amazing).
My daughter (teaches fitness on cruises) said that about Carnival. If you're offered a cruise on Crystal Cruises, take it! It's a different experience, a true luxury cruise. I went with her for a week, lost 3 lbs, swam with dolphins, and had a fine time.
Recently some friends asked me to join them for a 5 day cruise. I was tempted to go (they gave a good sales pitch), but I'm so glad I declined. Your account is exactly what I was avoiding.
I see we share pretty much the same view of the ships... of course I have never been a passenger on one, only a sparkled showgirl! Oh the stories I could tell you….
A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again===How funny! Icecream at 9:00, hmm do we need a breakfast dessert? Now I know why we sail with our own boat!
