Aussie Pics

by CdnJane - last update: Nov 25, 2002

Botany Bay 8am one August morning 2000

Botany Bay
This was about the first place I saw after being picked up at the Sydney Airport. It was about 8am, 5C outside and I had come from Canada where it was about 35C so was in barefoot & sandals, and dress. (Hey, I'm tough! I can take the cold... I'm Canadian!) Well... I decided that I couldn't take going down on the cold wet sand... I'm not that tough! But I did love seeing Botany Bay, the first landing spot of The First Fleet arriving in Australia.
First View of the Blue Mtns

The Blue Mountains

This was one of my first views of the cliffs of the Blue Mountains, and it just caught my breath.
Canberra

Canberra

I took the top picture from the War Memorial, looking across the valley to the Parliament Buildings and then the bottom pic was taken from the top of the Parliament building across back to the War Memorial.
I went to Canberra on a day long coach tour, and didn't have a long time to see the city. I don't think I'd really want to spend much more time, although the War Memorial was the most incredible war museum I've ever seen. There just wasnt enough time to see it all.
Clouds

Clouds... in formation

I took this shot out of the coach window on a trip to the Hunter Valley. That was a fun day, although I could only enjoy half the wine, having problems dealing with red wine. I'd highly recommend a visitor to Sydney to take the time to take a coach tour to the Hunter Valley and taste some of the wonder Aussie wines.
Kangaroos

Kangaroos

The top picture was of a kangaroo at the mountain above the war memorial in Canberra. The other picture was of a "mob of 'roos", taken from the coach on the way back from Canberra.
Near Oberon in the Blue Mountains

Near Oberon

The top pic is of some rescue vehicles near Oberon. There had been a walker who hadn't returned on schedule. We didn't know much more of the details. But the rescue teams were out in full force.
The lower pic was of the road near Oberon. I just loved the trees .. so different than home.
Near Katoomba

On Narrow Neck near Katoomba

This was taken near Katoomba, on "Narrow Neck"... looking back towards Katoomba. The great landslide of the 1920s? happened just across the way.
Taken August 2000
Sunset along the Nepean

Sunset Along the Nepean

Taken in Penrith, NSW, along the Nepean River, at a favourite pub. It was my last night in Oz, and this picture just happened.
