Travel Tips

Both of us had travelled around a bit and wanted to live in the mountains. Canada was considered really strongly (Banff) but neither of us really had the 'right' to live there.

Switzerland was also considered but was 'out' for the same reasons, plus it was more expensive.

With the advent of the EU and the fact that we were married, we had a choice of all the mountains in Europe or in the US to live in.

The US lost out for two reasons - cost and also both of us wanted to live in a place that we could learn another language well. (Cost is a pretty funny one in hindsight, now that the Euro and Dollar are even!)

We had met in Chamonix, and it was close to Switzerland and Italy, allowing us easy access to other countries/cultures/mountains besides the ones outside our back door.

It hasn't always been easy (beaurocracy is very annoying) but definitely was worth it!

Here we are, October 2001 on the Midi arrete before starting out for Mt Blanc du Tacul. Ahhh. This is what we moved here to do.
