Riding The Waves At Imperial Beach! | Small waves but still a great time |
The TRUE meaning of, "SURF'S UP!"
Imperial Beach isn't the most popular beach, but there are plenty of surfers out in the water and plenty of beach goers on the sand. None of the fancy oceanside cafes but plenty of places to get something to eat.
Imperial Beach is south of downtown San Diego about 10-15 miles. The bus and trolley can be taken to reach the IB Pier area. |
| | "Happy 45th Birthday Imperial Beach! A summer day at IB pier. This is the location of the Annual Sand Castle Competition!
A modest birthday gift from a sand castle builder. It is only in the second week of July that you will be sure to see such creations of sand, but the beach is great to visit anytime. |
Sights At A Sand Castle Contest! The beach fashion displayed at the beach in IB will convince you that this is not a place of the Rich and Famous, though they are as welcomed as anyone else. This beach is frequented mainly by the locals.
The beach is crowded with spectators at the Sand Castle Contest, one of the biggest events at Imperial Beach.
The statement on the shirt reads: "Never send a boy to do a girl's job!" Well, I thought it was cute. | | | "Never send a boy to do a girl's job" |
|
| | North of the Palm Ave. Jetty Located north of the IB Pier this first jetty begins, the second jetty is north of the Seacoast Inn making a secluded area for the Inn's guests.
These jettys also effect the water conditions so be careful around them. |
Art At The Foot Of Palm Avenue At the foot of Palm Avenue there is a plan to develope the area. Right now the only thing to see, besides the beach is the protable lifeguard tower and this Mosaic. | | |
| | Helping Hand Still north of the IB Pier this scene is pretty cute. The lifeguard drove up in his truck and started to dig a hole to plant a red flag warning of dangerous water conditions. The little boy gathered his shovels to help out. |
Surfing North Of The Pier! The surf was low, 2-3 foot swells, but these guys were doing their best and though they wiped-out most of the time, they did have a few moments of pay off!
Just watching their effort I felt thrilled whey they made it. | | | Still Learning But Doing Good! |
|
| | The Sloughs This is at the south end of IB just before the Tijuana River. This location offers maximum surfing opportunities for the best surfers, but the biggest waves do not occur every day so you might not get to see the pros at work.
It is also a relaxing spot to enjoy the natural elements. |
