The first time we had some beer, took a walk through the centre and played billard. End of May we took together a trip to Torgau to visit an exhibition at the castle.
The second meeting in Leipzig was with Karthik (Biophysics). He had to work several months in Leipzig and we met once for some beer.

Karlsruhe (March 2003) In March 2003 I toured around southwest Germany and had the honor of visiting Christine (tini58de) and Heinz (Madschick). They are awesome people! Their home is better and more exciting then any museum. Heinz's collection of old keys, home appliances and Christines collection of books really impressed me. I arrived over one hour to late due to a traffic jam. Both were waiting at their terrace with self made cheesecake and coffee. The cake was delicious! In the late afternoon we went ot a brewery where Heinz invited us for beer and a meal.

Hannover (March 2003) End of March Ulrike (nepalgoods) invited Holger (chancay) and me to a mini meeting in Hannover. On March 27 we met at Ulrike's flat. After a delicious supper she gave us an excellent slide show about her longterm trip through China. Later in the evening Holger showed us photos of his internships in Southamerica. It was a funny and informative meeting. I've learnt so much! On March 28 Ulrikes partner, Stephan, guided me through Hannover. He's been an excellent tour guide! In the evening we met Ulrike for a supper. Later Ulrike showed me some slides about tour through India. On March 29 we woke up early in the morning to visit the weekly flea market at the Leine River. After another sightseeingtour I had to go home.

| Impressions of the Leipzig Meeting |
Leipzig (March 2003) In May 2003 I had a three-days-meeting with Vivian (jinwenwang), Ulrike (nepalgoods) plus partner, Mischka (sympathisant)n & Ben (purzelbaum) The meeting started on Friday, May 23rd at 10pm. Vivian and I met at the Sleepy-Lion Hostel in order to find the Vivian's hotel. She booked a room at the Marriott-Renaissance. It took us almost two hours to find the right one. There's a Marriott hotel in town but it was not the right one. The one she booked a room in was just called Renaissance although they wrote Marriott on the voucher. Very confusing! Ee finally found the right one - Yippee!! After the unexpectedly long walk we went to a pub with open-air seats to empty some glasses of beer and to eat "Apfelstrudel" (apple strudel).
On Saturday at 3pm Vivian and I met Ben and Mischka at Moritzbastei, a famous student pub. Together, we went to the Central Station to pick up Ulrike and Stephan. It was a very hot day and we all were extremely thirsty. At first we went back to the Moritzbastei. It took a while before the waitress took our order. The sun was shining very intensely and we felt like a snowman in summer. Finally we got our drinks. During our stay there we wrote postcards for several VT members. After signing the cards we went through the city centre in order to take some photos for our VT pages. :-) In the evening Ben and Mischka leaved to meet some friends and Ulrike, Vivian Stephan and I went to a nice restaurant. We had a very delicious meal. We talked until 9pm. Then we went to a big musical celebration called the Honkeytonk Festival. We found a table outside a pub in the student quarter.
On Sunday Vivian had to leave early in the morning to catch her train back. I picked up Ulrike and Stephan from her hotel and we did a short sightseeing tour by car. After that we took breakfast at the Central Station. It is a huge complex with loads of bakeries and other stores. At noon we went to the Völkerschlachtdenkmal (Monument of the Battle of the Nations). It was too hot to climb up the 91m to the highest vantage point, so we stopped at the middle platform at 61m. After a wonderful view over the town we went back to the centre to visit the St. Nicholai and St. Thomas Church and a lunch at a Russian restaurant. |
Hannover (July 2003) While the Leipzig-Meeting in May Ulrike (nepalgoods) and her spouse Stephan invited me to attend their wedding. What a honor! On July 10th, right after my final exams, I jumped into my car and drove to Hannover. I arrived two hours later and were warmly welcomed. July 11, the next morning. I woke up and saw everyone busy. After several cups of coffee we started to go to the regestry office. Guess what transportation we used! The subway! As you can imagine, we were the eye-catcher. We arrived at 8.00 am. The sun were shining, birgs were sining and even the bells were ringing. Isn't that a good sign? 8.20 am. Ulrike, Stephan and Ulrike's sister, the witness of the mariage were registered and we could enter a small room for the ceremony. Everyone was excited! The registrar (right) read out some very nice poems and then she started the most important question. We all rose and both said the right word: "Ja" (=yes). Congratulation!!!! In the late evening we went to Lake Maschsee, a big lake in the heart of Hannover, to watch the fireworks. It was made to celebrate a special event in town but we pretended it was only for us. A great day has gone.
The next morning I had to leave. It has been the most exiting and most special VT-Meeting ever! Thank you Ulrike and Stephan. May your marriage last forever happily!
Who was there: of course, Ulrike (nepalgoods) Irmela (cloghane) Holger (chancay) Susanne (sansi) me, Christian (leipzig) :-) and several friends and relatives More photos of the wedding

Karlsruhe (October 2003) In October 2003 I travelled to Frankfurt in order to visit a friend of mine. On Octorber 5, 2003 I jumped into my car and drove southwards to Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, a small town in the outskirts of Karlsruhe. Here I visited Christine (tini58de) and Heinz (Madschick) for the second time (first time was in March 2003). They are awesome people. Most of time we were sitting in their kitchen, or better to say in the most exciting part of their museum? As you can see in the photo there are exhibits shown in every corner. At supper Heinz was baking Flamkuchen, a local speciality made of a dough with sour cream, ham and onions. Very delicious!! In the evening we played some games. My favorite one was the self-made game Deutschlandreise (Germany Travel). |
