The conch train was started when we lived in Key West in the late 60's. In those days it went all the way out to the Stock Island end of the Island.

We took the tour again for old time's sake. Except for the top picture, these are the photos I took from the train.

We saw all of the shopping areas in the Duval Street sections. Some of the T-shirt places are infamous. I have not been in this area at night - some caution is advised.

Cigar factory - Key West

When we were here in the late 60s there were still cigar factories on Duval street in buildings like these. Men would hand roll the cigars, just like they had been done in Cuba

Little conch houses - Key West

Little conch houses

Houses called Conch houses (named after the shellfish) are architecture brought over from the Bahamas. Conch houses are built to take the hot weather into account before the existence of air conditioning.

Gingerbread men - Key West

Gingerbread men

This Conch house has actual gingerbread men as the 'gingerbread' on the house.

The house shows the deep overhang of the porch which keeps the sun off the door and windows. There is also an attic vent with a hurricane shutter on it.

    Hi there, I realize you said you were never at the Bull so just thought I would mention they don't serve any food at all. Neither does the Whistle or the Garden of Eden. All 3 bars ar liquor only joints. Not sure where Yahoo got that info.

    That scooter place is out of business there. They have two other locations and they rip you off big time. Use any other but them.
