Introduction: Huge scene London has an exciting gay scene. But the community is small. Being so big, most people are strangers to each other, there is not a real sense of community.
The scene has a lot to offer, no matter what you are into or what you are looking for.
However, be careful, homophobia is still very much alive in London. You are totally safe in the West End but you must be careful as soons as you live the city centre. |
Bars They cater for every style tastes, sexual preferences... Outside the West end, you can find very nice pubs with a bigger "community" spirit...and cheaper drinks!! If you are into trendyplaces, Covent Garden is a MUST GO area, so is SOHO and to a lesser extent Earl's Court which is the centre of the older members of the scene. |
Clubs Again,a wild range of clubs. My favorite being Posptars at kings cross on Friday nights. They play indies, pop. A really laid back atmosphere without nastly ***es. Heaven is definitely the place to be. Saturday is TRENDY, and definitely IN. hOWEVER I DONT REALLY LIKE the attitude thing. That is why monday is my favorite night. |
names, names, names and here are some cool places:
CXR79, very cruisy, good music, cheap drinks (for london standards)
KUDOS, less cruisy but more trendy. A bit snotty, and drinks are not the cheapest in town. A lots of oriental and black guys go to this bar. Rent boys are also knowed to be regulars.
HEAVEN on mondays. BRILLANT! Student crowd on the first floor, rock, pop, indies, dancge techn o on the ground floor. The entry is free with flyers.
Friendly society. That s a brillant bar in what used to be a dodgy sex cinema. It is now a cool and trendy little bar with an amazing and tacky deco. Ken is shagging barbie on the top of a fish tank. Next time i go there i ll try to take a picture if the management allow me. |
Safety Lost last twelve months have seen a huge increase in homophobic crime. Do be careful when you live a club at night, make sure you get in a proper taxi and not an illegal mini cab ( whish could be a potenmtial gay basher pretending to be a taxi as it happened a few years ago).
Same go for parks and cruisy places at night. They are DANGEROUS places, not fun. If you dont end up beaten up you will most probably have your mobile phone stolen. |

TheLongTone Mon Nov 13, 2006 20:34 UTC That looks like the Fuller's brewery to me. Not that I'm a drinking man, but if they're making american fake budweiser there instead of beer things have come to a sorry pass. | Sandi-2004 Sat Oct 30, 2004 18:29 UTC Interesting collection of photos, especially liked the earthquake display in the museum(since I live in SF-the quake zone). Looks like the night life is fun. Since our "chat " on the forum, tho't I would visit your pgs . Best wishes. | yaya15923 Thu Sep 16, 2004 14:17 UTC Great tips. The "school disco" is a riot! Don't think we have anything like this over here in the US....yet. But we tend to rip off all of the UK's good ideas so I'm sure something similar will be introduced soon. | biggeorge Fri Feb 6, 2004 16:05 UTC Nice to see you've learnt the swear words , London is filthy and exciting, couldn't have put it better myself. |
