DOESN'T IT TASTE SWEET THIS BIG APPLE?? This really is a city to walk, walk and walk, till you don't feel your feet anymore, so take the best of walking shoes you can buy!
There is so much to enjoy, from museums to a cathedral, from sky scrapers to bridges and still more!
|
| | A BOAT TOUR IS RECOMMENDABLE !! A boat trip offers countless opportunities for fervent photographers....
The Circle Line will give you a fantastic view of Manhattan.
Also seen from the water New York is really disclosing itself for you to enjoy.
|
| | PIER 16 AND PIER 17..... South Street Seaport is a revitalization of the historic seaport district of Lower Manhattan, an eleven-block area that is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Pier 16 which is located in the East River, is the docking site of historic vessels. The South Street Seaport Museum maintains the four-masted bark PEKING, the lightship AMBROSE, the three masted WAVERTREE and the schooners LATTIE G. HOWARD and PIONEER.
Pier 17 is the site of the new Pier Pavilion. The three-story glass and steel structure extends into the East River and has a grand arcade that houses app. 120 restaurants, cafés and shops.
|
| | CIRCLE LINE....... Of course we made the famous boattrip, from Pier 83, were welcome aboard and enjoyed it very much.
|
| EMPIRE STATE BUILDING.... |
| | EMPIRE STATE BUILDING...... Although there are queues and lots of visitors, do go up Empire State building, forget the touristic things there and just enjoy the height and the view over the BIG APPLE : yes, have a bite, sweet and juicy.
The CHRYSLER building was constructed in 1929 and held the record as the world's tallest building for only a year and a half before it wassurpassed in height by the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING.
But it is the Chrysler building's splendid ART DECO design, not its height, that makes it a genuine gem among the world's skyscrapers.
The Empire State building opened on May 1 1931. It is "the most famous building in the world" and stands in the heart of Manhattan at Fifth Avenue and 34th street.
The panoramic views from its two observatories -on the 86th floor and 102nd floor - are awe-inspiring. The building is topped by a 222-foot antenna.
|
| | CHRYSLER BUILDING...... This card here because of the CHRYSLER building which is my favourite.
It dates back to the thirties and was New York's tallest building till the Empire State building was ready and...yes just a tiny little bit taller.
Yet I love Chrysler building better. It is not open to the public but we (because of Thomas) were aloud to go upstairs, which was great.
The building is 315 meters in height.
|
| | NICE PLACE IN THE SUN....... An old "brownstown", very old balconies and flights of iron stairs......
Always those thick stone steps that lead resident and friend, young and old, to the entrance of the building....such a nice place to warm in the late afternoon sunshine, to feel a bit of a breeze on far too hot nights, to gossip, to fear, to grieve, to sing and exchange snippets of news, to cry, to suffer, to feel frightened, to fall in love and to walk, jump, run up and down, up and down, again and again.....
|
| | WHO WILL LIVE HERE ??? This looks quite different: the façade RIVERSIDE DRIVE NR. 14........what will go on behind this stone facade?
Will these people here be happier? It is such a contrast with the houses on the photograph above!
In any case, life will be much easier for them because they seem to have enough money, won't skint when the last week of the month or the last day of the week is in sight....., wont have to think how to make both ends meet!
Worldwide there is such a gap between the privileged and underprivileged and we don't seem to be able (willing?) to SHARE, to close that gap as soon as possible, in any case as much as possible.......
Will there always be a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd world?
PLEASE, SEE AND ENJOY MY NEXT TRAVELOGUES ON NEW YORK, MADE WITH SO MUCH PLEASURE AND LOVE BECAUSE OF THE SWEET MEMORIES..
