How to get there... | A windy day at the beach... |
Coming from Denmark you will pass the Oresund bridge with your car or bus. If you prefer, you can also go by train from Copenhagen to Malmö. On this picture which is taken 1998 (I guess) the bridge was not terminated. There are also connections with ferries from Polen, Germany and Denmark to other cities. |
About roads, car and camping Travelling by car is easy in Sweden. The roads are generelly of good standard. We have limited speed on all roads. Highest velocity on the best High ways is 110 km per hour. In the cities it is 50 and sometimes 30 km per hour. You will notice that there are special places at the road side, where you can make a rest, eat something, visit a toilett, or just relax some minutes. These places often have their names so it is possible to arrange meeting with persons on the road (See you at 'Sillekrog' at 2 hour P.M!) Gas stations often have arranged with seats with tables outside, where you can eat you food etc. Gasoline costs more or less 9.50 SEK, cirka 1 Euro per liter. If you are camping, which I consider a very cost effective way to travel, and very diverting to, there is a catalog which you will get on your first camping site when you sign in (you have to sign in and you also get a plastic card to use at the camping fields, annual fee for card is 90 SEK (2003). The card serves as an identification of yourself. Almost every camping site is connected to this system. This catalog will give you a very detailed map (all of Sweden!) with indications on where the camping sites are and in detail what standard they offer and also the prices. You can use tents or go by camping car or caravan. On some sites there are also small cabins / huts to hire. The catalog for year 2003 is now published! Information you will get on: www.visit-sweden.com fax: +46 620 150 11 Post address: Visit Sweden Box 90 SE-881 22 Sollefteå Sweden or: www.swecamp.nu www.stuga.nu (cabins/huts) www.sverigeresan.se
- When you come to a city, make practice of visiting the tourist services office. They have maps, tips, catalogues and so on, and they are very keen to help you to have a nice time. |

| | Mid summer in Sweden If you are visiting Sweden at Mid summer you must not miss the great festivity of Mid Summer that will take place at certain places on 'Midsommarafton' (the Friday around 20 Juni). - If you are in Stockholm, I can recommend you to go south of Stockholm, to Tyresö who has a great mid summer event, visited each year by 10.000 persons. It starts at 11-12 A.M. and ends at 4 P.M. People come to sit down in the green grass and eat their lunch bags. Some will dance (dance in circles, very easy to capture, just follows the movement of you neighbour), children do like this very much. The mid summer tree (look at picture) are folded with flowers. If you don´t bring your food, there is always hot dogs or something else to buy. The zoological garden 'Skansen' is also a very popular place to go at this event. |
| Looking for information on Gotland. |
| | Unsorted tips The library system in Sweden is organized by the municipalities. It is a free service to the citizens (i.e. we pay it by our minicipal tax). As a guest in Sweden you are free to enter this buildings, sit down to read the newspapers (there are often papers from abroad), or to sit down and read something. Many libraries have many books in many different languages. - Are you planning to stay for a while, why don´t ask if you can lend a book for one or two weeks. Sweds are a reading people, and they will surely try to help you. If you can identify yourself, there ought to be no problem to lend books (though I suppose they will give you 1 book at a time, which is normal procedure even for us, being new 'customers'). |
