Exploring Luhansk

by hunterV - last update: Aug 6, 2009

Railway Station

At the platform before the departure
Lots of people arrive to this station and leave from it.
There are a lot of trains from and to Luhansk.
The most comfortable one is the fast train to Kiev (#19/20) that will take you to the capital in about 15 hours.

The Luhanka

The River Luhanka

The name of the river means "meadow river".
It really looks quiet and nice in summer.
You can see the river from May Day Park and from this place near the locomotive building factory.

Wedding Ceremonies

It's become a habit with the newly-weds to lay flowers to this monument in Sovietskaya Street.
The monument is called Christianity Jubilee Monument.
It was solemnly dedicated in December 2000 and sanctified by dozens of priests from all over Luhansk region who came here headed by our archpriest Most Reverend Joannicky, Metropolitan of Luhansk and Alchevsk.

Have a pancake!

Having a Bite at "Blinok"

This small kiosk selling hot pancakes has become an attraction in downtown Luhansk. It stands right opposite Shevchenko National University near the entrance to the market area and there is always a line there.
The pancakes are just delicious!

"The First Soviet Officer"

This monument to Climent Voroshilov, "the first Soviet officer", a five-star general, (1881-1969) who lived and worked in Luhansk stands in Kotsiubinsky Street opposite the City Council.
There is a nice view of the railway statiion and Stone Ford District from Voroshilov Square.

Hi,man!
MIG-15 monument

Luhansk Pilots

This monument to "MIG-15" is in Ostraya Mogila block in the south of Luhansk.
There was a military navigators' school in the city.
The monument looks very impressive and reminds us of those days when pilots and navigators were trained here.

The Monument to the Firemen's Courage

We also have a unique Firemen Museum.
It's opposite the Central Market area in Alexeyev Block, not far from "Children's World" deoartment store. The monument shows a fireman saving a little girl out of fire. The inscription runs, "To the firemen's courage"

Res Squar cafe, Luhansk

We Also Have Red Square

This is "Red Square" cafe in Red Square.
In fact the square was called Cathedral Square before 1921 when the Bolsheviks began their wave of renaiming the streets and squares refreshing the city image.

Hi Vic-I saw that on AeroSvit's and UIA's websites you can buy the Dniproavia tickets Kiev-Luhansk on-line (they code-share it seems). About USD 100 one-way. When I come over I am thinking of doing that. Maybe something to add in your tip?

Howdy Victor! Like I said before you live in a fabulous city. I still cannot get over how many wonderful museums, fountains, monuments, statues, squares, and those buildings have so much charm. Thank you for your lovely tour!
