"Feel the Art of Nature" - Floriade 2002's Theme In addition to Queensday in Amsterdam, I was fortunate enough to have a visit during a Floriade year. This event only happens every 10 years, so if you're planning a visit to Holland before October 20, 2002, please don't miss this remarkable outdoor exhibit and International Flower Show. My journey to the Floriade started at Centraal Station, where I hopped onto a quick train ride (abt 4. euro)that brought me to Schiphol Airport where I took the 'free' bus ride out to Haarlemmermeer, Holland. (including in the price of tix 17.00 euro.) This unforgettable trek, including great visuals of the countryside outside of Amsterdam, is well worth the expense. Arriving at Floriade you are greeted by the fragrance of nature's harmony. I instantly stepped through the inner sanctum and beheld the sight you see in this first pic. Believe me, it was a heart-pounding sight to see. Pictures cannot capture this enchanting event. Strolling through Floriade, one gets an appreciation for nature's willingness to share itself with peoplekind. International artists are featured throughout Floriade with such flair and talent you can't help but admire their time to create each individual's floral masterpiece. |
| | Sorry about the 'overdeveloped' quality of this one. This was actually another view of my first visual at Floriade. |
This one should be a postcard Again, sorry for the overdeveloped quality on this pic, but even with, it looks like a postcard to me. I really did take this pic with my 35mm, still wondering who it was playing with the buttons though.
| | What a statement this makes.... Probably my favorite memory of Floriade. The artist who did this wins my vote. |
Plethora of Purples This was another wonderous sight to see... A canal, complete with ducks, bordered this beauty.
So inspiring, this unknown visitor decided she wanted to do a little dance.
| | Treasure of Tulips I wish cameras had a scratch and sniff feature for this one. The fragrances were truly intoxicating.
By the way, bulbs for many of the tulips at Floriade were available for purchase. |
The Woman of the Garden I dubbed this awesome arrangement The Woman of the Garden... Do you see her?
The sign however, M111, In Liefde Bioeyende, is the true name? of this coordinate. The exhibit number was for the voters of the Floriade. | | | Number 1 runner up for me. |
|
| | Purple passions ...and on and on it goes.
Notice the canal beside this floral wonder? Maybe is just a reminder that you're still in Holland. |
