Moose Rescue, northern B.C.

by Darby2 - last update: Dec 16, 2007

Good Samaritans

Get me outa this mess!!!
Tom and his son prepare to cut the fence. Note, there is a distinct lack of snow even in this northerly area.

Don't fence me in!

January 1st was not a very Happy New Year for this yearling moose. My brother Tom and his family were driving to their new church when they came along this moose, tangled in the barbed wire fence along the highway at Halfway River between Fort St. John and Hudson's Hope, B.C. Being the good samaritan that he is, he cut the happless moose free from its entanglement and helped it regain its composure, making sure it could be on its way albeit on somewhat shaky legs. It limped away.

Many moose are struck by vehicles on the highways and even the railway in this area, resulting in death for both driver and moose which usually goes through the windshield. Be cautious when driving, especially in the early morning or near dusk.
Free, on shaky legs!
The young moose gets up and regains its strength.
on your way!...Happy New Year, Bruce!
Now, where is the rest of my family?
Peace River, near Hudson's Hope, B.C.

The majestic Peace River Valley

Winter in the late afternoon brings a feeling of tranquility to this area.

The mighty Peace River, downstream from the Peace Canyon Dam and W.A.C. Bennett Dams which generate more than 80% of all electric power in British Columbia. This photo was taken near Bear Flat.
St. Peter's church

Christmas card scene 2006 ...St. Peter's

This is the tiny log church in Hudson's Hope.

It has inter-denominational services.
Peace Reach, Williston Lake

Williston Lake

This is just a small part of Williston Lake reservoir which backs up behind the W.A.C. Bennett dam. The Peace Reach here, extends westward for more than 60 miles, then opens up onto the main part of the lake, covering more than 1761 sq km It's the 10th largest man-made reservoir in the world.
