Day 2: Getting into business

St. Peter’s Basilica interior

Exploring St. Peter

The Vatican was relatively close to my hotel, so I just went there. Piazza San Pietro didn’t disappoint me. It’s so elegant, so greatly proportioned (despite its dimensions) that I felt simply marveled about the place. But the best was still to come. St. Peter’s Basilica is full of artistic treasures, like the Pietá. I’m serious; I had never seen a sculpture as beautiful and expressive as that. Be aware that there are always a lot of people surrounding the sculpture, grrrr.

And talking about people, I hate to queue, and there was a really big one waiting to climb the Cathedral Dome, so I postponed that visit.

The Tiber in the morning

Leaving St. Peter, I found myself in a wonderful and sunny Saturday morning. I walked along the Tiber riverside, delighted with the views of the skyline of Rome.
View from Ponte San Angello
A glimpse of Rome from Castle de’ San Angello

Sky full of churches

This is the impression of Rome that I got from Castle Sant’Angello. Churches, churches and more churches. I was determined to see as many as them as possible. Not because of my fervent devotion (which I don’t have), but because I found them magnificent.

The bridge of the Castle

And, of course, there are other interesting vistas from the castle….
Ahhh! Bella vista of Ponte San Angello
An open window to Rome

The open window

Like this one. My instinctive reaction was to take the shot at once… it was like if someone had left the window open on purpose :-)

This is Rome

After leaving Sant’Angelo, I just wandered around the charming streets of Rome, with my eyes wide open, trying to register in my memory as many details as possible. The feeling of being in love with the city was growing stronger inside of me…
I love the colors of the buildings
Interesting dome. I’ll check that latter…

Interesting Dome….

It’s important to keep your attention also to the sky. In every corner you’ll find something remarkable. But this dome was especial… I didn’t find the church that day, but two days later, so I will not make any comment at this time.

Italian upside down

I think this shop was in Corso del Rinascimento, but I’m not sure, as I didn’t pay a lot of attention to street names during that day. I was so fascinated that this little fact didn’t seem to matter at all :-D
Italiano e molto facile e divertente ;-)
