This is a steep ascending up 400 m to the Kittel Valley, one of the places that has impressed me the most.

We have reached the Kittel Valley, the valley below is still covered with clouds.

I have to disappoint the viewer of this. We continued uphill 300 m more, but met with fog, hail, and hard winds. We did put on our rain coats, but the hard wind made us fall over, down to the ground. It was not possible to continue.
We went down. Even the guided tours were canceled from that day.
But that's it, you can't rely on that you can go up all times you try.

This pictures is taken some 20 km 'back', towards the Kebnekaijse mountains, after our return. The cloudy weather is continuing.

2003

Next year. Going up the Kittel Valley, what is waitin´?

The top this year was just 2104 m, the snow looking greyish. The top is actually melting down.
I arrived at the last glacial top at 15:00. The guided tour had just gone down. The guides do help their groups with boot irons and ropes. But as the top was so icy, all persons did not get up.
Some friends we met, had not been able to go up by themselves although they had small iron under the boots. (If you do not have paid the guided tour 450 SEK, of course you are not allowed to use the equipments the guided groups use)
When I came, the sun had been shining a bit, and the top was not so hard anymore. I could lend irons for my boots, and was able to get up on my own. A bit tricky as the irons did move. But after some excercice it did work.

Exhausted after long walk, beer and moose beef waiting at the Kebnekaijse Alpin center, just 20 minutes to go!
(there was also a nice shower ...)

2003

The day after, a pleasant rest in the sun.
Some walking excercises during the summer with "heavy loads" saved my day. I felt a bit tired, but recovered. A nice feeling!

Kul att se denna underbara natur igen, jag var uppe på toppen förra sommaren. Vädret var detsamma som ni hade. Det är verkligen ett underbart orört landskap. Bra sida!
