Soul-Searching in the Vatican

by Geisha_Girl - last update: Oct 5, 2002

Sunday in the park with the Pope

When in Rome......
It was 10 years since I had been to Rome......and things change so much in that decade. One thing that stayed the same, though, was the awesome magnitude of Vatican City, headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. We happened to have our stop in Rome fall on a Sunday.....just in time for us to attend the noon mass.
The Heavenly Fathers

The Processional

The priests make the entrance down the aisle in St Peter's Basilica. It was a spine-tingling processional

The Angels Sing

The entire mass was recited in Italian by a priest who had the most soothing, calming voice. The voice of the Santo Pietro choir echoed through the Basilica and sent goose bumps all over.
Gifted Voices
Bless me Father for I have sinned!

The Confessional

That day, they offered "Confession" services in several different languages. Attending mass was one thing, but I opted to PASS on this one. I was only in Rome for a day and a half.......it would take much LONGER than that for this Catholic girl to get through the preaching! ;->
