Fishing on Kodiak

by herzog63 - last update: Sep 18, 2003

Buskin River

Buskin River

The Buskin River is an easy drive from downtown so it is the most popular river on the road system. May-July you can catch Red Salmon. July-August you can catch Pink Salmon. August-October you can catch Silver Salmon. Pink Salmon are the easiest to catch but the Silver Salmon are the Funnest!! Silvers can get over 20 lbs. The Pink Salmon are 2-5 lbs on average. There are many other rivers, streams, and lakes to fish too.

Bear Tracks

You can see from the size of the lighter how big the tracks are.

Karluk River

The Karluk River is a short plane ride from the city of Kodiak. The King Salmon run in June-July. They are fun to catch. There are lots of Bears that will be fishing right along the river banks too. So you must use some Bear sense when fishing around them. You can see the bear in the bushes behind the angler in the picture.

Silver Salmon

My son is proudly displaying his Silver Salmon caught on the evening of September 14, 2003.

Fishing at the Mouth of the Buskin River

In August and September Anglers will be fishing at the mouth of the Buskin River stalking the Big Silver Salmon.

Hi Scott, you certainly do live in a fascinating part of the world. Anne and I will hopefully get to Alaska next year.
